The Home Joburg cottage collection is a free, private register of cottages, garden flats and studios in Johannesburg. I run it myself, Hannah Pirnie at Home Joburg, for owners who let their space now and then. When one of my relocation clients (a corporate transferee, an executive or an international family) needs somewhere to stay for a few weeks or months while they find a long-term home, I search the collection and introduce you personally.

I moved to Johannesburg with my husband’s job, for an adventure. He was in the office day two. So I know exactly what those first weeks feel like: schools to visit, suburbs to compare and a long list of decisions to make.

Most of my clients are not ready to sign a 12-month lease in their first week. What they need is a warm, quiet place to land. A garden cottage. A furnished studio. A private flat where they can catch their breath, enjoy the sunshine and start to feel at home.

How does the cottage collection work?

  • It is small and private by design. I would rather know 20 cottages well than have a list of 200 I cannot vouch for.
  • Your place is never advertised publicly or listed on property portals. I search the collection myself whenever a client needs a temporary home.
  • There is no exclusivity. Keep advertising on Airbnb or anywhere else, and there is no obligation to accept every enquiry.
  • It is free. No listing fees, no hidden costs, no ongoing commitment, and it stays free if I introduce a tenant.
  • You stay in control. You decide your availability, your rate and whether a guest is the right fit for your property.

Letting a whole house or apartment instead?

  • If your full house or apartment would suit an executive family on a longer lease, that is my corporate rental service, where I market the home to my relocation and corporate partners, conduct the viewings and screen every applicant. Tell me about your home.

What do owners ask before registering?

How much does it cost to register my cottage with Home Joburg?

Nothing. Registering is free, there are no listing fees and it stays free if I introduce a tenant. You are under no obligation to accept anyone I put forward.

Who would stay in my cottage?

My relocation clients: corporate transferees, executives and international families moving to Johannesburg. Most need a comfortable place for a few weeks or months while they visit schools, compare suburbs and find a long-term home.

Will my cottage be advertised publicly?

No. The collection is private. Your place is not listed on property portals and your street address is never shared publicly. I search the collection myself when a client needs somewhere to stay.

Can I keep my cottage listed on Airbnb?

Yes. There is no exclusivity, so you can keep advertising on Airbnb or anywhere else. Just let me know when your availability changes.

How long do tenants stay, and who sets the rate?

You decide both. You can accept stays from under a month to 12 months or longer, and you set your own monthly rate, plus a short-stay rate if you take stays under a month. You also decide whether each guest is the right fit.

How do I update my availability or remove my cottage?

What if I want to let a whole house or apartment?
